I live in Tennessee. On a farm. My happy place. My animals find me. Between my 8 dogs and 2 cats, half of them wandered onto the farm or were on nearby roads. Many furbabies find themselves expressing themselves very eloquently in my books. I am a proud mother to two. A doting grandmother to 2 incredible girls and boys. I am right smack between them (Wisconsin and Texas). I love to craft with crystals. Any unsuspecting light fixture in the house soon finds itself transformed into a chandelier. |
Fionne Foxxe Farraday is a pen name. F3 for short. I thought it would be amazing to be named after a force of nature.
Writing-wise, I got a late start. I’ve been a pulmonary / critical care doc for twenty-plus years. I’m lucky enough to still enjoy my job. Most days.
Spring of 2020, I was on medical leave for a mini-stroke. I came back to work in the ICU during the first wave of COVID. As we all know, it was a dark time. I’m old enough to have trained during the height of HIV. I remember the H1N1 epidemic all too well when we were losing patients in their 20s.
As bad as those were, COVID was far worse. We were losing entire families. Doctors had it relatively easy. We would spend time at the bedside and then continue on to the next patient.
ICU nurses were there for 12-hour stretches. This was before patients were allowed visitors. These nurses were the sole support these patients had. It truly was like a war zone. Knowing that they were likely going to lose their patients, these nurses came in to do their jobs. Every Day — and did them well — forming deep bonds with these terrified people. During that first year, nearly every nurse in the ICU and the COVID floor contracted COVID. We lost a lot of these amazing nurses to burnout and PTSD.
I started writing as a positive outlet for the growing frustration and anger we were all feeling. I chose Romance because I wanted to give us all hope. Science fiction because I could make up tech that could give us the happy endings we weren’t seeing in real life. The Mates of the Alliance series started off as a love letter to these unassuming heroes in the ICU. It still is, but now I also write because it’s cathartic, energizing, and freeing.
These stories have happy endings (for now — since it is a series). The stories are driven by themes dear to my heart. They focus on how much we have in common — beyond our superficial differences. One of the supporting characters throughout the series is our planet — the problems she has.. and her amazing potential. I love animals (I have 8 dogs, 2 cats, 3 donkeys, and 8 head of cattle). They add so much to my life. People who don’t have pets are always amazed at mine. I think we underestimate animal intelligence and potential. Some of my favorite characters are the animal companions (and they steal scenes on a routine basis). Some animal characters are ones that aren’t normally perceived as heroic or benevolent. In my world, they are — and they are a lot of fun. |
I write about couples who are completely Bonded. Fiercely monogamous. The tagline is: Committed. Devoted. Faithful. Mates Just Are. In these books, these relationships give the characters safety. I can hear the snorts of disbelief now. I know. Safety is maybe not the sexiest word that comes to mind for most people. To me, it is. Safety gives my characters the freedom and confidence to explore their Bond — and completely immerse themselves in their Mate. Both their emotional and physical bond is very fiercely intimate.
This was intended to be a five-book series about the individual members of the bridge crew. Best laid plans and all… a secondary character in Book 2 was so sympathetic and so very lonely. He just needed to tell his story — and he deserved a Mate truly worthy of him. After falling in love with several such characters, Lirinx (the final bridge crew member) is FINALLY getting his book. It’s ONLY 5 books late!
While each book can be read as a standalone, the experience is far richer if a reader starts with Kairn. Kairn is also the shortest book by far. Book 2 introduces a fascinating cadre of sentient animals. Yes, I am definitely biased. Animals aren’t JUST pets in the MOTA world. They’re Familiars: a companion who develops a deep BOND with their chosen. I believe in levelling the playing field…. So my animals call their chosen person their Familiar as well. |
While this is a sci-fi romance, it is deeply rooted in Friendship and Family. It is also a bromance … a bestfriendsforever. My books powerfully redefine the meaning of Friendship and Family. Friends are truly Family you get to choose for yourself… they do not necessarily have to be human — or humanoid for that matter.
When someone asks me if I think they would like the MOTA, my answer is this: if they liked Shape of Water… Avatar… Ruby Dixon … intelligent animals … gorgeous fiercely devoted aliens… heart-melting romance… wicked humor… Then you will LOVE the MOTA.
